“The law is reason, free from passion,” says Aristotle. But to Lynda F. Jones, Principal at The Jones Law Group, it is passion that drives her to do what she does, to stand in the shoes of her clients and fight their fight. She is very tenacious in her efforts to comprehend the challenges they face and present those facts to the courts.

Having practiced law for over 22 years now, Lynda has appeared in over 3,000 cases. Experienced in both civil and criminal law, she helps people keep their homes, women and children live free from fear of domestic violence, and provides a voice for the mentally ill and our nation’s veterans.

Yet surprisingly, she rarely mentions that she is a business owner. In her mind, she’s just a lawyer trying to help as many people as she can, and that business is just part of it.

Lynda earned her J.D. from the University of Memphis, but discovered her passion for public service while volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters while attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After moving to Nashville in the early 1990s, she decided to leave the security of the law firm she then worked for and start her own practice. With less than $1,000 in the bank, Lynda was now in business. She showed up every day and worked to build her practice, client by client and case by case. She was so successful that her practice quickly grew to two offices.

But when she married and started a family, Lynda craved a better quality of life. So in 2006, she sold that practice and began a new one, The Jones Law Group. She implemented a collaborative model, employing a talented team of three women, attorneys and support staff, allowing her to better manage her heavy case load and exceed client expectations and still be present in the lives of husband and daughter.

For Lynda, her commitment to helping people extends beyond her work with clients. She has served as a board member or volunteered her time to several organizations and is committed to empowering those she encounters, encouraging them to reach out and touch their dreams and turn them into reality.

And as if Lynda didn’t have enough to balance, she’s decided to add one more arrow to her quiver – she’s running for Judge. Hoping to marry her commitment to serving the community with years of experience as an accomplished attorney, she wants to build a bridge between private organizations, those eager to provide essential skills and opportunities, to the lower courts, in hopes that the partnership will reduce the chance of repeat offense.

Through her example, Lynda hopes to inspire other women to not only build their businesses, but to find their passion in the community and volunteer their time and effort to help make someone else’s dream come true.
