Aspiring Writer + Life Changer
Pasica Smith wants to save your life. This Indianapolis native landed in Music City by way of Tennessee State University, where she earned a degree in Healthcare Administration and Planning. While currently working as a CAC Manager at Cigna Healthcare, Smith is nurturing a business whose benefits are more than skin deep.
“The mission is what drew me in,” says Smith, of natural skin care company Beautycounter. “The lack of regulation on the products we put on our bodies here in the U.S. is unreal. And this company works daily to change that.”
Similar in structure to many direct sales companies, Beautycounter relies on a network of home consultants to educate consumers about the hidden dangers of beauty and personal care products on the market today.
“My mentor introduced me to the brand. At first, I thought it was your typical pyramid and that I didn’t have time to build a business. I’m not a salesperson, and I have a family,” Smith recalls as she reflects over her initial objections. But Smith agreed to listen and what she heard changed her life.
“Beautycounter has banned over 1,500 ingredients from its products. On the back of my business card, you’ll see a portion of our “Never List,” says Smith. And a close look shows ingredients you’d probably find on the labeling of most of the products you’re using right now.
But despite increased awareness of the threat posed by skin care and beauty products with perceived toxic ingredients, persuading ladies to make the big switch to one without them, according to Smith, hasn’t been easy.
“What I do works,” says Smith, “is by far, my most common objection. Beautycounter has only been around for three years, and it’s up against legacy brands that have been around for 100 years.”
But Smith is committed to growing her business. Having begun her journey with Beautycounter only one year ago this November, Smith is ready to grow. “I’m building my team, but I’ll admit, that hasn’t been easy. So far, finding team members who are committed to growing their business and spreading Beautycounter’s important message has been my greatest challenge.”
Smith, however, isn’t deterred. Creative by nature, she looks forward to defining her own success using unconventional methods to grow her business. “I’m not just selling potions and lotions, lipsticks and body butters. Anyone can do that. But through my Beautycounter business, I’m changing a generation addicted to ingredients that lead to cancer, hormone disruption, learning disabilities, and other diseases. And if I can be a part of eradicating that, I accept that challenge.
Her name, Pascia, means “on the Passover” which breathes life into her defining statement: “No one should ever be forced to compromise their safety. At Beautycounter, we’re not only crafting products formulated to free us from chemicals that can hurt us, but through the sales opportunity, we’re giving women a chance to run their own business, ensure their financial stability, and have a lasting social impact.
Pascia is looking for motivated individuals to join her team. Please contact her directly via her online store or by email.
