DIVERSITY LEADER OF THE YEAR
Nominee has established a diversity business enterprise and sponsored or coordinated programs that have cultivated diversity and inclusion. They foster employees who take positive steps to create a culture of respect and inclusion for diversity in the workplace.
Dr. Sybril Brown, Belmont University
Affectionately known as “Dr. Syb,” she is a Vanderbilt-educated, Harvard-trained, two-time Emmy award-winning multimedia journalist, author, international speaker and lecturer. Currently, she is a tenured professor of journalism at Belmont University. She has won many awards including Journalism Educator of the Year, National Association of Black Journalists and Distinguished Scholar Award, The Consortium of Doctors, Ltd. Dr. Brown supports diversity enterprises through her role as an educator to promote equality. She introduced a course at Belmont on diverse populations to help students value each other. She believes learning to collaborate through diversity and inclusion isn’t an option in the 21st century—it is an imperative.
Margaret Dunlap, UPS
Ms. Dunlap is a marketing manager at UPS has taken her passion for learning (she’s fluent in five languages) and commitment to diversity and inclusion to help women create a career path at the company. She was involved in establishing the charter for the Mid South Women’s Business Resource Group for UPS in 2010. She has been instrumental in bringing UPS onboard as a corporate sponsor with CABLE awarding $20,000 in scholarships for women. Ms. Dunlap mentors two junior women to help them gain visibility with upper management. As a result, more women at UPS are advancing to senior level positions and building their careers at the company.
COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT AWARD
Nominee engages in the creation, organization and mobilization of volunteers, groups and resources that are involved in benefiting the greater community. The award is issued for volunteer service only. Nominee utilizes unique and creative approaches to meeting community needs. They develop and foster the virtues and skills of civic engagement and social responsibility.
Donna Drehmann, Listen, Learn, Live
Ms. Drehmann is the owner of customer experience firm Listen, Learn, Live. She describes her role as “part customer advocate and part detective” in tapping into the voice of the customer to understand what organizations are doing well and where they can improve. She pays it forward by frequently partnering with non-profit organizations through in-kind or reduced rates to bring customer service principles to their staff. Her aim is to help organizations engage their members to understand the impact they’re making in the community. She looks for ways to lend her expertise to organizations that are serving others such as Pathway Women’s Business Center, FiftyForward and Belcourt Theatre.
Karin Moughler, HR Professional/Entrepreneur
Ms. Mougler is on a mission to share her message about the importance of breast health and breast cancer awareness until there is a cure. After being diagnosed in October 2011, she formed Karin’s Pink Warriors as her Race for the Cure Team and hasn’t looked back. She volunteers at the Susan G. Komen Greater Nashville office answering phones, processing registrations, donations and sending thank you notes. She’s a member of FemFessionals and the Komen Speaker’s Bureau sharing her story and bringing awareness to the cause. She has supported many fundraising efforts including the Project: Facing Pink, Survivor Calendar and Pretty in Pink Survivor Celebration.
